Half the face of Jesus |

In his Sermon at CGC Paisley on 14th September 2008 Phil Arbon drew this pastel image of half of Jesus’ face. Phil says, “I was given only 5 minutes to do the sketch, the point being that I may not have as much time as I think to find out about Jesus. I have to make every effort to do what I can in the time I have.” Phil continues, “It is only half a face because the light source is on the right hand side; the other side of the face is in shadow. The idea behind this is that I am on journey of faith from darkness to light. As I travel towards the light source I will see more of Jesus as I progress on my journey. If you were to ask me why I believe, I can point to the things I do understand and see: · the Jesus of history; · the answers to prayer; · the sense of his presence; · prophetic words that have remarkably come true; · the occasions of miraculous provision in my life. The other side is what I don’t see: · the prayers that haven't been answered; · tragedy and suffering; · things that make no sense; · things that are shrouded in doubt. This is the side of Jesus where my faith is blind faith. If I can see one side of the face of Jesus, doesn't it stand to reason that there is another side to His face, even if I can’t see it? So in the journey of faith, what do I concentrate on? Do I look at the things I can see or the things I cannot see?” “For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I am known." 1 Corinthians 13:12
